When it comes to designing the layout of your space its important to consider how you want to store your clothes. Not everything needs to be hung up, and not everything needs to be folded into drawers
Drawers are a great addition to any wardrobe design, they make use of all the space available and gives easy access to your garments, even those at the back. Drawers are perfect for T-shirts, shorts, undergarments and workout clothing. Things that don’t need to be hung up can find a home in your drawers.
Rails to hang your clothes are the most common element in wardrobe design. What most people forget is you often don’t need full-length clothing as your main rail. Consider using a mix of full length and half-length rails (upper and lower rail) that will help you make the most of the space you have. Shirts and jackets traditionally don’t need a full-length rail. However, evening dresses will probably need a full-length space in your wardrobe.
Tip: using thinner hangers, such as these slim design velvet hangers over bulkier timber hangers, will allow you to fit more clothes onto your hanging rail.
If you’re sharing your wardrobe with your other half, make a clear distinction between the two spaces in the wardrobe. Though Women’s clothing tends to take up more space than men’s and require more long hang, it’s important to set boundaries in the shared space to avoid any future arguments.
Think about the lighting. Often a wardrobe is where you choose your outfit for the day, so make sure the lighting is going to reflect an outfit you choose accurately. The lighting in your wardrobe should help you feel good about your outfit choice and set you up for a good day. The right lighting in a space can dramatically impact the overall feel of a space and how your clothes look.
